Online Learning

Hello. This is Cathleen Young, Starr King's Online Education Director.

Starr King School offers 15-week (fourteen weeks of instruction and a one week mid-semester break) online courses for fall, spring and summer sessions. Classes cover a variety of themes, from the study of Unitarian Universalist History; to stories of meaning, life, and death in Children's Literature; to the fascinating intersections of religions in Andalusian Spain.

Anyone who has an interest may apply. It is now possible for people contemplating seminary to enroll in Starr King graduate-level online courses before committing to a degree program at SKSM. This provides an excellent way for people to explore their aptitude and interest in theological education and make a start towards a seminary degree. Upon application and admission to the M.Div. or the M.A. in Religious Leadership for Social Change (MASC), fees paid and credits earned in online courses will transfer towards the completion of the degree program. 2008-2009 course descriptions, syllabi and booklists are posted at http://online.sksm.edu/courses09.php.

Some of our online classes are especially well suited for students from non-Unitarian Universalist schools, ministers seeking continuing education opportunities and those considering the ministry. Other courses appeal to lay persons involved in congregational and community work who want to ground their focus in theological competency and creativity.

Starr King graduates can receive scholarship assistance (in the form of waived fees) to take one online course each year. To apply, please e-mail the Online Education Director at cyoung@sksm.edu and state your request.

If I can be of assistance, please call 510/845-6232 x119, or contact. We look forward to "meeting" you online!
