Tech Support

Technology Requirements and Support

Requirements

Students must have the following technology in order to successfully participate in SKSM online courses:

  • Regular access to a computer with broadband internet capabilities.
  • Internet Explorer or Firefox browser; Firefox strongly recommended. At the present time, Safari is not compatible with Moodle.
  • The latest version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Some courses incorporate audio or video. Audio/video players come installed on most computers or may be downloaded for free from Windows, Apple, or elsewhere.

Support

Assistance with Moodle and technical support are available from the following sources:

  • Learning Moodle: We highly recommend the Moodle Demonstration Site where you will find the most recent stable released version of Moodle. Using free demo accounts (or create your own), you can explore sample courses “hands-on” without fear of “messing up” since the database and files are erased and restored every hour.
  • GTU Moodle Help for Students (also easily accessible through the Students link on the GTU Moodle main site and on Moodle online course pages).
  • The GTU Moodle main site is at http://moodle.gtu.edu/. Faculty may obtain assistance at http://www.gtu.edu/library/faculty/moodle-help or through the Faculty link on the GTU Moodle main site and on Moodle online course pages. Further help is readily available on the right-hand side of Moodle course pages. Look for the “Library Virtual Reference” block for options including Instant Messaging. Finally, contact the GTU Library Reference Desk at library@gtu.edu or call 510.649.2501.
  • The Moodle User’s Guide and Moodle Help Pages explain the purpose and function of most elements of Moodle.
  • Visit http://www.moodle.org and set up a free account in order to access extensive Moodle documentation and user communities.
  • Finally, MoodleDocs can be very helpful, i.e., Forums, Wikis, and more.
